Daniel-Jay Family Foundation Scholarship

The Daniel-Jay Family is excited to announce our annual scholarship, a reflection of our belief that education is a powerful pathway to opportunity, growth, and generational impact. We are proud to support students who are pursuing their goals while carrying forward the strength, resilience, and legacy of those who came before us. Through this scholarship, we invest not only in individual achievement, but in the continued advancement of our community.

Scholarship Overview

Award Amount
The Foundation will award three (3) scholarships of $1,000 each, totaling $3,000.

 

Disbursement Structure
Each $1,000 award will be distributed in two installments:

  • $500 at the start of the academic term 

  • $500 after verification of continued enrollment and satisfactory academic progress 

 

Payment Method

All scholarship funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution and applied toward:

  • Tuition 

  • Required fees 

  • Books and academic expenses (as applicable per institution policy)

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be pursuing post-secondary education (2-year, 4-year, or vocational/trade program) 

  • Demonstrate documented ancestral ties to African Americans from Edgefield or Saluda County, South Carolina, or the surrounding area, from pre-Civil War to 1930 

  • Demonstrate financial need 

  • Show academic or vocational merit 

  • Exhibit a commitment to community restoration and service

Application Requirements

Payment Method

Applicants must submit:

  • Completed application form 

  • Unofficial transcript 

  • Personal statement (essay response) 

  • (Optional) Letter(s) of recommendation

Selection Criteria

Recipients will be selected based on objective and nondiscriminatory criteria, including:

  • Academic or vocational achievement 

  • Demonstrated financial need 

  • Community service and impact 

  • Strength and thoughtfulness of personal statement 

Timeline

  • Application Opens: May 1, 2026 

  • Application Deadline: June 10, 2026

  • Award Announcement: July 18, 2026  

  • Initial Disbursement: Beginning of academic term 

  • Final Disbursement: After submission of the required academic progress documentation 

Recipient Expectations

Award recipients must:

  • Enroll in an eligible post-secondary institution 

  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress 

  • Provide verification of enrollment and/or transcript for second disbursement
